House interior

I used an isometric grid to plan out the furniture in the interior. I kept the style very square, for convenience and it also gave the concept art a stylised feel to it too.

I used cell shading to shade the scene. This keeps the stylised, cartoony theme to it, and allows me to more accurately control shadows and their saturation, as there is no realistic shadows to watch out for.

For the living room, I rendered two images of my characters to add to the scene, to make it feel more like the house is lived in. I stayed close to the concept art so that my work remained consistent.

When designing the kitchen, I made sure when creating this concept art to include important appliances, such as a kettle, microwave, and a sink. For gameplay, these are only used for decorative purposes, but I knew that it would make the room more realistic and used.

To optimise the space, I made the dining table a breakfast bar, which will also double as a space to work in the kitchen.

I followed the layout of the kitchen and added some extra models to the scene, such as empty glasses, knives, a knife holder, and a small jar of jam.

I kept the bedroom very empty, as I wanted to bring the player’s attention to other rooms in the house.

I added a small desk and laptop to the bedroom, which also works as a make-shift work area for my characters.

This ended up being the best layout for the bedroom. It holds everything a bedroom needs, while still having floor space, and access to both sides of the bed.

For the bathroom, I kept almost everything in the bathroom the same as the concept art. 

I rearranged the orientation of the shower and the placement of the toilet paper, which suited the room size and shape a lot better.
